Jump Start Your Fresh Windows 7 PC

Okay, time for a long post. It’s going to be a guide for people who just got Microsoft’s new operating system, which is Windows 7. Last one before going back to school. ^^
Windows 7 is a fast, stable OS that already includes cool software installed. But still, we’ll need to put in our stuff.
We’ll just start with the basics. Common tasks like browsing the net, chatting with your friends, making documents, also multimedia stuff require tools that’s not built in with Windows 7. Some of the old programs may not even work with the new OS. That’s why the guide is here to help you take full control with your brand new system.
After installing your drivers and updating your software, you’d want to put in some apps.
Okay, let’s start.
Essentials – Free Apps:
Security always comes in front. There are lots of antivirus apps that updated their programs to work with Windows 7, but Microsoft Security Essentials blends well with the system.
In this era, surfing the net occupies most computer users. Windows 7 already has Internet Explorer 8 built-in, but most people would sure download either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. Choose any. Both are okay.
Next you’d want to have a lightweight player, easy to open and just play all sorts of media files, from videos and music, the powerful VLC Media Player will work pretty cool in your Windows 7.
So what about photos? That’s where Picasa comes in. It’s on top of the list and comes with loads of features like, making collages, tagging friends, uploading to lots of services.
Computers are also used for communication. And I recommend Skype. It has the best video and call quality. Works great with Windows 7. Alternatives are Yahoo! Messenger, because most probably you’ve got lots of friends already there, and Pidgin, if you have lots of friends on different networks. But try Skype, it’s the best!
[Will add more apps soon.]
